What are budlings?
Budlings are predatorial fungus who feed specifically on the frontal lobe of living organisms [the part of the brain responsible for intelligence] to survive. The more developed a frontal lobe is, the more susceptible it is to infection. Lesser developed frontal lobes [such as from feral animals] are less than desirable for the species thus making feral animals an unusual target BUT on occasion a budling MAY latch onto one [This allows for unlimited feral Succubuds to come into fruition-] Budlings are also highly adaptable and can take over anything with high intelligence by digging their roots into wires, neurons, flesh and bone and even impractical things like crystals! Some budlings also spread through spores that burst forth from their main bodies mouth, unsuspecting victims inhaling these spores through their respiratory system. These spores travel through the nasal passage and - in an unexpected twist - travel upwards to the cerebrum where the spores attach. From there budlings will eventually start to sprout and grow up and through the victims skull, their roots and teeth chewing a sizeable hole through to free themselves. During this process the victims will not feel pain and the wound will always be clean. Like a small void of an opening for the budling to be able to emerge and with it a brand new succubud on the Planet X.
What is their purpose?
Budlings are a byproduct of the fallen 'Mother Bug; a deity from space. Their main intention is to try and take over the entirety of Planet X to continue their spreading of their species. Whilst the idea is split 50/50 between many factions it is unanimous that Succubuds wish to keep their own autonomy and functions, so upon infection they get granted something to keep the infections at bay.
